Read THIS blog post by a teacher. I mean actually read it. Take it in. Think about it. And then, write about it. What do you think about it? What is the teacher trying to say? In your own words explain what "the main event" is.

I agree with this article 100%. He makes very valid points. By the time kids are seniors in high school, they have gotten into a habit where if something that seems "hard" or "too much work" comes their way, they don't even try. They are quitters, even if they put up a fight to tell you that they aren't. They don't want to try their hardest because they think it is stupid or unnecessary. He puts many points into perfect words. The point of school isn't about the things you are learning anymore. It is setting you up to work hard and overcome challenges for later in your life, because life after high school is going to be much harder than life in high school. That is his main idea. Stop complaining and just do your work. In the long run, it will help!

P.S.
He should fix his tie.

3 day weekend... how was it? Give me a good story or something funny that happened this weekend. Go.

This weekend was great! I had a blast with so many people. My favorite thing I did was on Monday though! It was the one year anniversary of Reat's passing. So we got to honor him all of yesterday. In the afternoon, the choir got to sing at a memorial for him outside of the school. There is now a beautiful bench out front of the school in honor of Reat. The choir sang, "Heal the World." It was so awesome to be able to honor him in that way. Then, that night, there was a walk and celebration for all three of the people killed. We walked from the Jewish Community Center to Church of the Resurrection. It was so cool. Then the celebration was a fun way to just remember all of their lives and come together as a community.

Do you agree or disagree with this statement. Elaborate on why you agree of disagree.

"If images are on the internet they should be "free game"."

I could go both ways with this statement. I understand both perspectives.

For the side that is pro: you are choosing to put your stuff out there. If you chose to put it out there, you made the choice to have people see it and use it. You made the choice to have whoever chooses to go to your website, see your pictures. This could be great for you! If you are trying to be discovered, agents and people high up in the business you are trying to get to, could see your work and want to hire you. They could use your work in trying to find you and hire you!

For the side that is con: these are your images. Why would you want people to take your work, that you put in a lot of time for, and use it for their benefit. If you put in the work, they should not take the easy way out and not create their own work. They might also take credit for your work and make money off of something you put your heart and soul into.

Reflection on my Resume Website

How I feel about my website
I feel like my Resume Website was a success! I was given many tools to help me along and bring me to this point. The Brain Dump helped a lot. All of the information was right there on the page, all I had to do was look at the page and plug it into my website! I feel like I had some very cool aspects to my website as well! My "home" portion of the website was my logo. It had a very cool Times Square/Broadway background picture that got some very good feedback from the students who looked at it. It was also a perfect demonstration of who I am, a theatre lover! On the picture read the words, Jeremy Jacobs - Actor Singer Dancer. I also feel great about my color scheme. The colors were all bright and fun an upbeat. And that describes me perfectly as well! I am a fun, outgoing, bubbly person! The fonts were fun as well. Overall, this website really showed a great example of who I am. That is what you want in a resume website. You want to show your employer who you are in an example that is fun, easy to read, and gives them all the information they need.

Comparison to other websites
There are some aspects of the other students' websites that were very cool. Some computers had their backgrounds fixed. So when you would scroll through the website, the backgrounds would not move, but would transition one into another like a slideshow. It was awesome. That would have been great to use. I also could have put more pictures on my website, But I am content with the content that I had.

What's the coolest thing you've learned in Web Design so far? Why is it so cool and how can it help you in the future?

The coolest thing I have learned in Web Design so far is how to keep the navigation bar at the top of the screen at all times! When you scroll down, the navigation will stay right at the top so that the user can always have access to the navigation bar, rather than having to scroll all the way up to the top of the page again.

Define 'User Experience'. What does it mean and how does it relate to web design? Explain yourself.

User Experience is how interactive and how enjoyable the website is for the user. The user should be entertained or find the aspects of what they are looking at enjoyable. For a website, the website should have a great User Experience! the user should not find your website boring if you want them to keep looking at it. If they are not enjoying the website, they will go right on to the next one.

What is a resume website? What do people put on resume websites. Spend about 5-10 minutes looking up resume websites and what they are used for. Explain what you find. Include an image of a resume website if possible.

A resume website is a website for companies to look at when they are interviewing people for jobs. The company will want to know about the person, his experience and skills, before they choose to hire him/her. A person will put his past experience and jobs, his special skills for the area of work, and a little bit about him (i.e. how to contact him) on their website. A lot of times websites are styled to look like the job they are going for; if a coder was looking for a job they would put crazy awesome coding attributes on their website.

Who do you look up to in your life? Why do you look up to them? Tell me about them and some of their characteristics that you admire.

I look up to my director at The Culture House, Amy Sander. Amy is incredible! She is the greatest director I have ever worked with! She knows how to work with actors and actresses perfectly, how to set up all of the tech to make the spectacle better, and she knows how to make every show she works with an amazing production! She also is a great Christian that encourages the students in her company to keep God and Jesus present in our lives and to do our craft through him! I love the way that she can be the example for all of us in how she lives our life, and help us truly enjoy what we are doing with the arts!

Tell me about your weekend.

This weekend was very relaxed for me. On Saturday, I had quite a bit to do but I was pretty relaxed during it. In the morning, I went to KC A Capella rehearsal! We are rehearsing to record an album. Then I went skeet shooting with my dad and some of the guys from my church's youth group. It was a blast! That night, I went over to my girlfriend's house and we hung out and watched a movie. We watched, "Patch Adams." It was a phenomenal movie! So good!! We were exhausted and accidentally fell asleep.

On Sunday, I went to church in the morning, and youth group at night. Afterwards, my family had my girlfriend's family over and we had a bonfire! This weekend was overall very fun!

If you were the Principal for a week at BVHS, what would that look like? What changes would you make? Why?

If I was the principal for the week I would want to make everyone known. I would have every club, organization, and group showcased in front of the school. I wouldn't just tell people to go see them on their own time, I would show everyone off in an assembly. Every group has great people in it and has their own specialties, and I would want the whole school to see those. I would also want to meet everyone. That sounds impossible but I would want to do it. I would like to talk to every student and learn about them and make them feel loved. I would also like to go to all of the classes and see how the teachers are doing. If students think teachers are teaching very well, I would work with that teacher to make it better. But I would want everyone to know that they are special.

Tell me about your weekend.

This weekend I did more musical theatre things! I went to the Book of Mormon on Sunday Night at the Music Hall! It was a VERY racist and explicit show but it was also VERY funny! My favorite scene was called, "I Believe." It is a very powerful in the second act that also has great humor in it. The actor's were phenomenal, the sets were crazy good, the humor made me cry I was laughing so hard, and the tech was really cool. Earlier that day, I got to spend time with my girlfriend in the snow! It was a blast! We had a snowball fight and made snow angels and a snowman!
Overall, this weekend was a blast!

Tell me about your weekend. Give me a story, something funny that happened, an experiencing you had, the way you felt, etc. Include photos!

This weekend was so much fun! Friday night, I played in a double-header pep band game. That was a blast! Then, on Saturday, I went and saw my girlfriend in the show "Cinderella" at BVNW. She played one of the ugly stepsister's and STOLE THE SHOW! She was so good!!

That night, we had a make-up Valentine's Day. We were both out of town for the actual Valentine's Day so we had to make it up! It was so much fun!

The perfect curriculum for me would be a mix of performing arts (Theatre, Singing, Dancing) class and teaching/common classes. I want to be a music teacher when I grow up, but I also want to perform on the side. This is pretty much what I am studying right now in school, except the level of performing arts training I am getting is not what I would prefer it to be. I spend my class time very well now so I would do the same. Some of the class titles would be, "Show Choir Advanced," "Acting," and "How to Teach Kids How to Sing."

Color can convey a lot of emotion when it comes to designing anything from a product to a website to an advertisement to a logo and so much more. What do you think the importance of colors on a website are? What is a color scheme and why is it important to have when designing? Explain any thoughts you might have around color in design.

Colors are very important with emotions! When I see the color yellow, I think happy thoughts, when I see black I think darker thoughts. Based on your website or page, color scheme is very important. The color scheme is what colors you use and how you use them. If you are talking about a very serious matter, you wouldn't want to use yellows, pinks, or purples. You would probably use darker colors. Also, if you are talking about a happy, fun topic, you wouldn't use dark colors like dark red, black, or dark brown.

Think about the quote above. What does this mean to you? How could this apply to your life? How could this apply to your school work (especially Web Design!)? I would love to give you less work in class if it meant you were going to focus harder on the work. Do you think you would get more out of it? Would that work for you? Why or why not?

When I do less work I am able to focus more. And when I do that, I can accomplish better outcomes with what I am trying to produce! My school work would be so much better and I would be able to learn things easier! Teachers get mad at us for not doing our best work or for not getting things in on time but they don't understand that the others are also assigning more homework! So we don't have a lot of time to do our best work. If teachers would all assign less work we could do more and focus more in class. This is a perfect quote! This would be the ideal working conditions for me!

Tell me all about your weekend! I sure hope you have photos to share.

This weekend flew by for me! I was in "42nd Street" and we performed this weekend! It went so quickly! The performances went incredibly well! They all were phenomenal! Everyone who came, loved it! I played a character named Bert Barry who is over the top and hilarious the whole time! It was so much fun playing him!

I love weekends where I get to perform! Because of that, this weekend was amazing!!

What's the coolest thing you've learned in this class so far this year? Now that you have a little knowledge, what do you want to learn that you don't know how to do yet?

The coolest thing I have learned so far is something in CSS! The hover aspect. When you hover over something you can make it do something special! And that is so cool! I really want to learn how to columnize things so that I can actually make my website look how I want it to look!

My date was my girlfriend, Ady Nichol Shaw! She looked INCREDIBLE! One of the girls in our group made signs for all of the couples! They were super cute! Here is a picture of my girlfriend and me holding our sign!

Sweetheart was so much fun!

What is a website wireframe? Explain. If you don't know what it is, look it up. Find an image online to place on your blog that represents a website wireframe and how they work.

A website wireframe is the "skeleton" of a website. It lacks all of the special elements of the website, the fancy things! But people normally use this just to see what the layout will look like, the logistics of everything! This is so that companies can arrange their website before they actually put everything together and try to add of the nit-picky things of a website.

Finish this sentence "10 years from now I will be...."

10 years from now I will be teaching vocal music at a high school! I will have a degree in music education and I will have a job teaching high schoolers vocal music! I will also be director the musicals at that school. The choirs I will have are a Freshman Choir, large choir, small advanced choir, show choir, A Capella choir, barbershops, me's choruses, and women's choruses.

Tell me about your weekend. Go.

This weekend was, once again, filled with musical theatre! On Saturday, we had an all day rehearsal for the musical, "42nd Street". The rehearsal was from 9AM-4PM. It was our first rehearsal with a live pit orchestra! It was awesome! We even managed to get through the whole show. We blocked my big number as well, "Shuffle Off To Buffalo". It is my favorite song because I really get to be over the top and fun the whole time. This is a picture from that scene!

Then on Sunday I went to church and then to KC A Cappella rehearsal for a couple hours! I love going to those rehearsals. My weekends are normally filled with musical things and I love that!

What do you find the most confusing and frustrating part of web design and HTML code so far? What would make it easier? What don't you understand? What do you understand? Explain yourself.

I understand all of the coding, the only thing that is frustrating for me is having to remember it all. I know how to do it all but when I am given a blank webpage, I do not know what to do from memory. I think coding is easy to pick up and it is easy to put down but I have trouble remembering what does what and all of the different codes. But I really enjoy it!

Tell me all about your 3 day weekend! Share photos.

Over the weekend I didn't really do much. The majority of the time, I slept. I needed this sleep because I haven't been getting much sleep recently. It was awesome catching up on it! I did get to hag out with my girlfriend as part of the weekend though! Her family is moving houses so I was helping them pack up their boxes and start moving! But after a while we got tired of doing that so we decided to put in a movie and chill!

Tell me a little bit about yourself and your life here at BVHS. What activities or clubs are you involved in? What year are you in school? What is your favorite class and/or teacher so far this year? What are you looking forward to this school year? Include some original photos from your phone if you can.

My name is Jeremy Jacobs and I am involved in a lot of stuff! The activities and clubs I am involved with are Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Chambers, Chorale, STUCO, and the Musicals/Plays. As you can tell, I am involved with a lot of Music! Music is my favorite thing to do! Here is a picture of me in our Choir concert last month and a picture of me during a rehearsal from the musical, "42nd Street"!

I am a sophomore! My favorite class is Chambers! And my favorite teacher is Mrs. Marsha Moeller, the choir teacher. This year I am looking forward to being in more shows and getting more chances to perform with all of the groups I am involved with in and out of school. I am also looking forward to being one step closer to graduating and going to college!

Always be nice
Be considerate towards others
Call people nice names
Don't hit people with your car
Everyday is a day to be nice
Fevers aren't fun, go make people who have them, feel better
Give money to the poor
Hand shakes are better than high-fives
Instead of being a bad person, be a good person
Jealousy is never a good thing
Kids aren't stupid, let them know
Let the other person feel the glory
Make someone's day
No one should be made fun of
Obviously, it is better to be nice
Probably should not kill something
Quit is not a word you should ever use
Realize that the world does not revolve around you
Support the elderly
Try to smile at all times
Understand when someone is hurting
Very kindly talk to people who need your help
Word choice is very important
Xylophones have pleasant sounds
Yellow can make you happy
Zebras can be the best friends

What are your thoughts on this class so far? Easy? Hard? Informative? Frustrating? What have you learned so far? What do you want to learn? Explain yourself.

I really enjoy this class so far! I love working on computers so this is fun for me! Also, I really enjoy classes that aren't too hard for me. I am picking up on the coding and blogging very easily. It is informative, but I don't find coding very interesting. Even so, I have enjoyed the class so far! I have learned way more about coding than I knew before. I didn't know anything about coding before walking into this classroom but now I know a lot! I want to finish codecademy and actually understand what I am doing. I don't want to just breeze through it.

Monday, January 12th, 2015

Tell me about your weekend. What did you do? Upload a photo to your Google Drive and then insert the photo (or photos!) to your blog post to show me what all you did.

This weekend was filled with musical theatre for me. The weekend started out with a 4 hour rehearsal for the musical at BVHS, "42nd Street!" We accomplished so much in this rehearsal!

Then I went to a voice lesson where I worked on techniques that I needed to sing my songs in "42nd Street" to the best extent. That night I went to see a show! I saw my all time favorite musical, "Dogfight" at the Just Off Broadway Theatre. This show is a beautiful, but sad show that follows a marine as he falls in love with someone he should not. They performed the show well, but had a few hiccups and mistakes that were evident. I enjoyed the performance, but because the show is my all time favorite musical, it didn't live up to my standards.

Musical Theatre is my favorite thing to do, see, and be a part of, so this weekend was a blast!

Read this small newspaper clipping and then write a blog post about it. What are your thoughts? How does it make you feel? Do you agree? Disagree? Explain yourself.

I agree partly with John Tapene, but do agree fully with him. I do agree that teenagers need to get out into the world. We need to get off our butts and do something with our lives. We all ask about what we can do and where we can go, but then we go right back to our homes and are unproductive with our lives. If we really want to know what we can do, we have to go out there and try new things, make mistakes, and just stop being the generation that is unable to part from their cells phones, televisions, and video games. I do not agree with him when he says that we need to grow up and stop bring cry babies. Yes, we are important, and we do need to give our share to the world, but sometimes the best productivity and creations come from the cry babies and the children. We need to use what we have and be ourselves when we are creating and helping. If you are a cry baby; that's great! Be yourself, but use that to your advantage. Children, don't grow up! Embrace who you are and use that to help the world. We shouldn't force people to "grow up" when really, that will just be them putting on facade and trying to be someone who they are not! The best productivity comes when we are trying to be ourselves and thinking like ourselves.
